Sit down with us, and we'll sort the pre-K paperwork together
Grain is a small center that takes part in the state's pre-K program. Come to a tour with your child's papers, and the director fills in the forms with you.
Half day, school day and extended day are each five days a week.

The paperwork
The pre-K paperwork, step by step
Bring these to the tour. We'll fill in the forms with you, one at a time.
Step 1: Proof of age
Your child's birth certificate, or another record that shows the date of birth. We copy it and hand it back.
Step 2: Proof of address
A recent utility bill or lease with your name and street. The state program asks where you live.
Step 3: Immunization record
Your child's doctor can print it. We keep a copy in the enrollment file.
Step 4: Pickup list
The adults who may collect your child, with their phone numbers. We ask for ID at the door until we know everyone.
Step 5: State pre-K application
Families apply for the state program through the school district. We sit with you at the tour and fill it in together.
Step 6: Our enrollment forms
The rest are our own enrollment forms, and the director goes through them with you. Medical details go on them, privately, once you enroll.

A day at Grain
A long day with room to play
The school day runs from 8 to 2:30. In between there's circle time, centers, a long stretch in the yard, lunch, quiet rest and time with a teacher in twos and threes.
Before and after care fill the hours on either side, for families who need them.

Safety routines
Arrival and pickup
A teacher meets every child at the front door and signs them in. At pickup a child goes only with an adult on your list, and we ask for ID at the door until we know you.
Allergies and snacks
Tell us about allergies at the tour; we ask privately once you enroll. We ask families not to send nuts, and snack is served at the table with a teacher.
When a child is ill
A child with a fever or a contagious illness stays home. If a child gets sick at school, we call you right away and a teacher stays close until you arrive.
Drills and headcounts
We practice fire and tornado drills with the children, and a teacher counts them at every door, on the yard and before any walk or ride.

The team
The people at the front door
Six adults work at Grain: a director, two lead teachers, two assistants and an aide for before and after care.
Teagan Hardin
Owner and director
Teagan opened Grain and is at the front door most mornings. She sits with families through the pre-K paperwork, and she's the person to ask for a tour.
Quanisha Bates
Lead pre-K teacher
Quanisha leads one of the two pre-K rooms. She reads aloud every day, keeps the morning routine steady, and is glad to talk with you at pickup.
